At McFarland Construction, collaboration is one of our core values. We know that collaboration begins internally by building the right team and workplace culture. Our employees are the building blocks of our team and every one of them has a story to tell. Up next under our Employee Spotlight is Jonathan, one of our amazing Project Superintendents. Aside from being an important asset to our field team, Jonathan is an avid hunter and outdoorsman and enjoys spending time with his family. Learn more about Jonathan here:
How long have you been in the construction industry?
Altogether, 20 years. I started in residential construction and moved to commercial in 2017. My family owned a flooring company so I’ve been familiar with the industry since I was a teenager. I really enjoyed what I did since it allowed me to interact with customers out in the field. I like being somewhere different every day and feel like I’m not meant to do the same job tasks every day.
How long have you been at McFarland?
I’ve been here almost three years and it’s been so great seeing all the growth and being a part of it. When you think about it, we are a relatively new company compared to other general contractors and it’s amazing how much we have accomplished over the past 12 years. To have even a small role in that is very rewarding and fun.
What do you like most about the industry?
Interacting with our clients. We service all different industries, and our portfolio is so diverse. Since I started, we have branched out so much with our client base. I love meeting them out in the field.
It was a project we did in Greensboro for one of our private financial clients. I was relatively new at the time but my history of customer service and my ability to understand where people are coming from allowed me to make a personal connection with our client. Gaining her trust was important to us making it through the project. We were a smaller team, but we made it happen and the client was extremely happy at the end. It was my first big project with McFarland.
Have you always lived in the Charlotte area?
I’m originally from Rock Hill and have lived there all my life. I’ve seen the area and the city grow so much over the years and that has been amazing
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Definitely spend time with my family. My daughter will be 10 in August and she loves to go out and fish with me on the boat. I love anything outdoors – hunting, fishing, you name it. We also love going to the beach as a family every summer, usually to Murrells Inlet.
What do you like most about working at McFarland?
What I like most about working here is that you don’t feel like just a number. Even though I’m out in the field, I know that I can call on anyone on our leadership team if I ever need something. The wealth of industry knowledge that we have as a team is amazing. You don’t have to feel shy or embarrassed about asking questions or asking for advice. It makes you feel more like a family rather than just an employee.
